Band: Defenestration
Title: Gutter Perdition
Label: XenoKorp
Date: February 9, 2018
Country: France
Forming in 2014, Defenestration are a four-piece death metal band from France who have a demo (Ordinary Violence) and a new EP titled Gutter Perdition.
This five-track release features some crunchy guitar tones accompanied by guttural vocals and superb drumming which all together, adds to the fury of this American influenced EP. Palm muted, chugging guitar riffs can be heard at times in both the fast parts and the slower heavy groove parts of the songs, along with fast speed picking and harmonies with occasional breaks where a rumbling trebly bass comes through revealing its snarl. With the type of low guttural vocals applied, to the break downs within the song structures and the tempos used with the drumming techniques, there is a fair comparison and feel of the likes of Cannibal Corpse and maybe a touch of Vader as well. Overall, this has a great combination of old school and brutal death metal that keeps a strong sense of rhythm and catchiness throughout. It will be interesting to hear more from Defenestration and what they will offer us in the future. 9/10 By Wolven Deadsoul

Savage Annihilation "Quand S'abaisse La Croix Du Blasphème"
Band: Savage Annihilation
Title: Quand S'abaisse La Croix Du Blasphème
Label: Xenokorp
Release Date: October 13, 2017
Country: France
Hearing these new blasphemous hymns, this album is both heavy and consistent overall and is led predominately by mid-range eq’d guitars of a sizzling serrated sound. Using fast speed picking rhythms with harmonious leads, to breaking into slow chugging-catchy riffs of an American like style and sustaining doomy chords similar to Incantation’s sound of death metal, this is backed by a tight trebly bass attacking with quick fills. The kick drums rarely take a break, thundering away keeping all in tact as the snare hammers down with a natural but solid sound that fits well and maintains its consistency through out. The aggressive nature of the monstrous demonic like vocals of a low to mid guttural range fire out, carrying the words of darkness and blasphemy of this story to be told. There is even a dark operatic outro featuring female vocals and acoustic guitars concluding all in a moment of sorrow and to reminisce of all that has been heard. Savage Annihilation bring death metal back to a time where catchiness and heaviness still matters while keeping the old school influences combined with brutality alive and well! 9/10 By Wolven Deadsoul

Beginning in 2002, Savage Annihilation have a demo, a split, an EP and two full lengths so far and have been carving out some raw, heavy, brutal death metal since. With five tracks in total going a little over twenty minutes in length and featuring a Sepultura cover too, this EP is titled, “Organe après Organe.”
This type of death metal takes us to a time towards the later 1990’s influence when bands of this style were leaving thrash well behind for the most part and were creating the description of what the term brutal is. This EP features catchy heavy riffing of a chunky raw nature and groove, to string bends & harmonic pinches screaming out along with arpeggios and prime flowing solos, hinting on sounds like older Morbid Angel and Cryptopsy. With added sporadic drumming going from fast, to slow, to starting and stopping intervals which enforce this overall madness, we also have the older classic style monster vocals of a low guttural range and with some higher end screams too tearing back the flesh for all to see. 8/10 By Wolven Deadsoul
