Well well well... First of all, very good looking the Digipack that I have in my hands.
I received this release a little late, (thank you very much to the customs) directly from the label and what I have to say about the same? Totally unknown. I had never heard of such a band. So I did some homework. "New Devoted Human" is the band's first release. That band, which is the union of three musicians. Jasse Tuukki and Toni Myöhänen from the band STROM.ec and Kristoffer Oustad which was created in 2015. But what do we have here? These three musicians from Norway and Finland make a mixture of sound that brushes the Dark Ambient style, very obscure and the musical style, Industrial. They are well-elaborated compositions, a little aggressive at times and that very sincerely, I think the ears of many will feel difficult to listen to the songs here present. The songs have a rhythmic cadence present that made me shake my head and made my feet set the rhythm/beat of the songs. Sung or spoken phrases that sometimes appear in songs can "fill up" and your message of destruction is very real. There are some "loops" throughout the album that are nicely matched with the rest of the "sounds", rhythm, beat behind the song. I can also add that on this album I found different sounds and/or beats than I am used to listening to in this musical genre. There is something here that touches the "Electronic" but in a harder and bolder way, more obscure and heavy. It was a very good discovery for me. I really liked what I heard. If by chance someone is willing to listen to something new, different and obscure I strongly advise this band. 8/10 By Me, Myself & I

The end of the year 2017 is coming to an end and I receive a promo directly from the band. Prayer of the Dying are from the small country, Republic of Malta. As far as I'm aware there are some Metal bands but there are few and one of them is Prayer of the Dying. Band that I know since the second album that was released in 2008 but I do not know all its releases (some of the splits that were going out between the albums). But let's talk about this album, self edited and simply limited to 150 copies. Divided into 13 songs could be a dull and / or monotonous album due to its length of time, but no. There were high moments in my audition? Yes. There were less good times in my audition? Yes. It is an album that in my opinion has much influence that goes from Viking Metal, melodic Black Metal and a Gothic style. It is well produced, I can hear all the instruments perfectly (I like the most elaborate bass guitar lines), there is a good musical structure in many songs, unfortunately not all, I have to admit. I could not appreciate the clean voice that appears a few times and I sincerely think that the band, or rather the one man band, sins to put it this way and it is here along with the riffs used in these parts that for me are with a strand and/or Gothic influence, Reminds me the albums from Paradise Lost or Sentenced when they were lost in their own musical style. And yes this is the only negative point in my opinion on this album. Taking this negative point in my opinion, this release can be an album that listens very well and can be interesting and I liked the parts where I listen the traditional instruments. Merciless Savage "Visions"

Merciless Savage ... Come from Wales (I am sincere, I know very little coming from this country) and have been in this world as a band since 2007?!?!?!? Unfortunately only in 2017 was I aware of this band (One man band) and because they contacted me because otherwise I would still be and here I admit, in pure ignorance of the quality that the band has. And what does this gentleman or this band present us here in this EP of his name "Visions"? Well, the sound coming out of the speakers of my stereo is a Death Metal with some Black Metal mix. Although some songs have more Black Metal riffs than Death Metal, but the style that is most present in my opinion is Death Metal, be it in riffs, the way the drums sound (although sometimes it sounds like the programmed drums ), voice and even the equalization / mixing / final mastering of the EP. Unfortunately (in my opinion) this work only exists in digital format, but this is another talk and we will return to the band itself. I can say that they are +/- 27 minutes of very good hearing. It does not become "sickening" to your hearing, it is not saturating, it is not boring, on the contrary it is very good. The change of speed in the songs is not predictable as in most bands within this musical style, the voice fits in the right places and your tone is good. Being five songs present I thought it would be easy to raise one or two songs and spread the word and say "listen to this song that is very good" but nahhhhh, I could not. Every time I listened to this EP I discovered details and more highlights in all the songs. I listened many, many times, believe me I heard, I even hummed the songs many times because the riffs did not leave my head. But I had to choose one song, or rather I chose two, however I am not denigrating the other songs, on the contrary. Listen to the songs "Visions" and "Poison Legacy" (excellent riff at minute 1). But ... I also advise the song "Flight of Thought and Memory" especially for having a different way of singing that along with the riffs of the music make a mixture very well achieved. The remaining songs? I also advise you, that's it. I advise the EP in its entirety and final point, because in reality it is very well achieved. This is a band that I will try hard to follow because it deserves. Excellent job. Many congratulations on the final result. 9/10 By Me, Myself & I

Croc Noir, which in English means "Black Fang" come from France and they make a very good Black Metal. This release, is the junction of the two demos "Froid" and "Nuit". With an addition of a song entitled "Outro" that makes the transition from the first demo to the second demo, so I can say that it is a small bonus. eheh. I already knew the first demo "Froid" of 2016 and I liked it as soon as I heard it for the first time. At that time it reminded me of Black Metal made in the 90's but without being so retro and with a personal touch, without being one of the immense copies that go around. So the first 6 songs were nothing new to me, but it was a good (again) listening and it helped to understand, in a manner of speaking, the transition to the following songs. The second demo, yes, was a novelty for me and I hoped it would continue the good Black Metal I knew and I was not sorry. Very good. In both the first part of this work and in the second part (for being two demos, here together in fomato compilation) there is a very well done Black Metal, with rhythms / riffs very well executed and quite pleasant listening, which by the way stayed inside of my head and that made my foot set the rhythm of the music. They can move from faster rhythms, to mid tempo rhythms and even slower rhythms in a very good way and without losing the atmosphere created from the beginning of the music. From the first demo to the second I thought the drums are more "real" (but they have a drummer) and the production, although raw is a little better. Another thing I liked a lot was the use of traditional instruments that can give more "soul" to the songs. They are not all over the album or in all songs, I'll say, they appear in the exact places. Croc Noir is a band that I will follow and pay attention to. I hope they continue the excellent work, as they have been able to do till this day. I strongly advise this band to all Black Metal lovers. 9/10 By Me, Myself & I

Well ... The name of the band was not strange when I received this promo, but from where I thought ... Hmmm ... Until the moment I started this review I could not remember. I had to search the net. AhAhAhAh !!! (But I discovered: p) Well ... Let's get down to business. What do we have here? Death Metal from Chile. Final point and paragraph and finished the review. AhAhAhAH. I'm kidding. Yes, we have a Death Metal facing Old School. At its best. From the chords used in the elaboration of riffs, to the passages of the same riffs, mastering, etc. everything that reminded me of the good years, the beginning of Death Metal, especially (and here I have to say), to the sound coming from Tampa, Florida and they range from Morbid Angel to Deicide. From the first song to the last song, it made me remember, especially Morbid Angel. However it still reminded me in some parts the Brazilian Krisiun. The sound of the guitars, the sound of the bass guitar that is heard and is very good, the "dry" sound of the snare drum and the rest of the drums and even the voice remembers the sound of that time. Very good. I can tell you that I loved listening to this album, not only because of what it reminded me of but especially because of the musical quality they were able to demonstrate. I strongly recommend this album to all Death Metal lovers. It's really worth it. Unfortunately the band after this album or before the album and here I could not find out, but it no longer exists. 8/10 By Me, Myself & I

Analfabetism ... Well ... Maybe I even "suffer" it ... At the musical level ... Very sincerely there is so much that appears in these days and in absurd amounts that it will be extremely difficult to follow, even if it is dedicated to a unique musical style. Even worse for me, I like a lot of musical styles. So yes, I will be a true illiterate in the music ... But ... Does the name of the band mean this or one of the other aspects of Analfabetism? The one in which you can not understand things as simple as they are? Hmmmm ... Let's talk about music ... I was completely unaware of this band, or rather this project, because it is composed of one person, Fredrik Djurfeldt. Many thanks Malignant Records. Dark ambient is what is heard in this work. Very good by the way. But listening to this work noticed that there was something different, something that was not so abrasive, something that could create a dense atmosphere, some loops that passed and create an environment, I will say a little obscure and with the feeling that humanity is over and you are to live the remnants of the end of existence. As I am a little bit lazy in this musical style (I'm not ashamed to say it: P and because I've only listened to this genre more assiduously +/- since 2015) but I found something different and went to search. I discovered that the sounds, the atmosphere, the lack of certain sounds, was a musical subgenre. Death Industrial (go and search). So after many, many times, I have listened to this release, rediscover new sounds, loops, sound effects, sounds that sometimes resembled an explosion mixed with the sounds of machines that react to nuclear radiation, mechanical beats, etc. I can say that this project is a very good job of Dark Ambient influenced by Death Industrial. If there is anything better than Analfabetism? Tchhhh ... I do not know. But I liked this album. "Skammen" will be something I will listen to more often. 8/10 By Me, Myself & I

United Front "By All Means II (The Fall of Church and State)"

United Front ... Well ... Formerly called U-731 and composed only Gordon Lazarus. But they are currently a duo and the info I found in this cyber world was a little contradictory. On a site I even found that they played Death Metal. Ahahahahahah. Well, from Death Metal they do not have anything very honestly, at least here. So what does this duo play or what musical style are they related to? I think that the main strand is the Dark Ambient. However, and from what I am aware of this musical genre (which unfortunately only in these last two years I have heard more regularly) have much more things around here. I noticed a criticism of American society, the way it moves around corruption, war and conflict. I came to this point, or I deduce this, because of the samples taken from a movie or a TV series (I do not remember here, but I know I've heard and seen the phrases used somewhere, I hate it when this happens and I do not remember) used. There is also a critique or finger pointing here to religion and how it manipulates society. The music made by this duo for about 34 minutes +/- has quite good moments, I liked the mix of sounds, from the distorted voices, to the atmosphere created by the samples, mixed sounds that come and go in a chaotic way but the in an order organized and that make sense in this sequence of entry and exit. I noticed a little influence in some industrial sound and its cadence, or at least the sounds distilled in the column of my stereo so reminded me and managed to take me along that path. The sound obtained throughout this work is all very obscure, even at the beginning of the song "Church and State" where a female voice is heard in a genre of Gregorian chant (If I am not mistaken this little song is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, I do not know if I'll be right). Sometimes the sound of this duo sounds a bit "antagonistic" but it can make sense, at least to me it did. It is not easy to describe what I felt and how I felt when I listened this work, unless I loved to meet this duo and their music, and that I want to listen more of the things that they have done. Do I recommend this release? Yes. To all the listeners, now let's be if they have the ability to listen and try to understand what is done here??? Go and listen. 8/10 By Me, Myself & I.

Here is a very good surprise ... The Slave Eye, is a band that originally is American, but is composed 50/50, USA / Finland. The good things on the internet ... And yes, good that the internet has these good things. The union began in 2015 with only 2 members and in 2016 two more members enter. It's very good. They managed to create an EP (I've seen albums with less time) of very good hearing. What is mostly heard over 6 songs is about 30m. It is a Black Metal very well achieved and from time to time influences of Thrash, but few. The production of this EP is very well done. So if you're a listener of only raw Black Metal, this EP is not for you, but you're losing, I'll let you know right away. The sound of the guitar is very good and with good riffs and also melody. The drums is well balanced with the rest of the instruments and with interesting details, nothing great, but very good. The bass is present, sometimes rhythmic, sometimes more "flowing", but "fills" the music and makes it not so simple and "empty". The voice, I liked the voice. I liked the timbre of the singer. All very well mixed and well produced. Congratulations. Of these 6 songs that compose this EP I can not advise only one song for first and only hearing although I think that "Of Dark Heart and Mind" is an excellent music. All the songs are a good sample of what this band does, a good Black Metal. It has aggression, has melody, has paced moments, has the mix of both. Seriously, very good. I will be attentive to this band to know when they release an album and that they get, or better that they have at least a quality equal to this EP. However and now it will be an aside, but not so much, ehehehehe. The Black Metal played on this EP reminded me of a lot of good stuff I heard many years ago. This EP made me remember Satyricon in the wonderful years. To finish, this EP well that could be the new album of Satyricon, because this EP is very good. I loved it. 8.5 / 10 By Me, Myself & I

Molphar "Ice Kingdom"

Well well ... Of all the information I've been able to collect and where I've been, I've always read that this band played, Black Metal. Yeah yeah... Only if it was in the past. But here in this album? Black Metal has nothing. The riffs used, the way the songs are made and elaborated. Even the distortion used on the guitars used throughout the album, has nothing to do with Black Metal (here I am referring to the typical sound of Black Metal, where the guitars have a normally sharp distortion). But... Very good songs I found. The lyrical content of the band? Well, I do not know if I'll be right, but due to the theme of the songs, I will say that they should be on the theme "Heathen". Of all the songs, I can advise "Ice Kingdom", "Way to Valhalla" and "Immortality". Very good and an excellent sample of good riffs and good Death Metal. But there is a song on this album that for me is very, very good. "Rise of the Blade". Here yes, I already noticed something, that I can say, HERE IS BLACK METAL (I also found small pieces in the song "Memory of Ancients"). ahahahahahah. Yes, here we can see the influences of Black Metal, they must be the "remnants" of the band's past. This song managed to draw even more attention to my ears while my stereo played and played many more times (exactly the same as the other songs on this album). Last words ... I did not know the band, I got to know them, I liked the album, EVERYTHING, and I inform that it will be an album that I will listen to more times. Almost certainly. Pulvis Et Umbra "Atmosfear"

To start a small moment of culture, Pulvis Et Umbra means "Dust And Shadow". I received this promo directly from the band. Thank you in advance for your confidence in the work of Blessed Altar Zine. What do we have here? A band from Italy and with only one member, a band that sails through Death Metal and while they are within this style, I like it. But ... Damn, did there really have to be a "but"? The "but" is that they also navigate within Metalcore. Sorry for that (the band) but this style does not fit in my ears very well. So I'll try to be as fair as I can. The Death Metal part of this band is very audible and I would even say, good listening. Songs like "The Soul Collectress", "Crows Below To Her", "Virus" (The beginning made me remember the extinct and very good North American band "DEATH") (R.I.P.) among others, but here it comes ... again the "but" ... The band when it mixes the groove and the balance of metalcore, something that is typical in this musical style, in my opinion it looks it is lost, and this mixture of sounds, are not for me. The voice throughout the album is more shouted than sung and there is almost nothing related to the "Death Metal" kind of voice, with a lot of pity for me, very sincerely, because in my opinion I think it would give a lot more "weight" to the songs. Another thing I have to point to is the programmed drums, it is well programmed but it sounds like "plastic". If I'm going to advise this to Death Metal lovers, I can, but I'll also tell them that it's not just Death Metal that they're going to listen, because it has mixed metalcore. If I advise this band to more liberal listeners and listeners without problems with the mixture of sounds and "modernizations"? Runespell (Aus) "Unhallowed Blood Oath"

After a demo, released in May of this year, will be released in September (29th to be more correct) the album. Again to be released by the German label Iron Bonehead Productions. For the label to bet on the band again, it's because the band has quality. And yes it is true. Very good. Or I'll say even better. A very good Black Metal. A very good voice, the sound distilled by the guitars, the raw drums, etc. Very good. Seven musics and a 38 minutes of audition make this album (at least in my opinion) be a candidate for one of the best Black Metal albums of 2017 (I'm talking about my audition and not of your elections and votes in forums and blogs , mainstream arghhh). In the seven songs of this album, there are some very powerful riffs that made me move my head and foot to mark the tempo of the song. Music like "Oblivion Minds" or the excellent beginning (and the rest of the music too) of "Bllodlust & Vengeance", fuck. Excellent. Of all the songs on this album, the one that even managed to be only a little superior to the other songs was "Heaven In Blood". Excellent riff, great music. The music is elaborated in a simple way but that takes us to a state of purity, which is required in Black Metal. I do not know how to say more, how good this album is. Even the two instrumental songs present, are good and sincerely do not even feel the lack of voice in them, attention I am not saying bad things of the singer, I even say well, if you do not remember back to the text above and read again. ahahahahah. To finish this review ... If you do not know, this band, or rather this one man band, has the excellent musician Nightwolf behind everything. Search yourself, who is this musician... 8.5 / 10 By Me, Myself & I

Dead Soul Alliance (Can) "Slaves To The Apocalypse"

Dead Soul Alliance are from Canada. It began as a project of musician Wolven Deadsoul. And its first release is from 2011. Since then and until now only came out one more release in 2013 and now in 2017 "Slaves To The Apocalypse" which I have the pleasure of listening and doing this review. What do we have here? Death Metal. In the old and good style. If the style should have stayed like this? I wil not go that way and I will not comment. I will simply comment on this very good EP that I have heard many times. Eheheheheh.A good voice has Mr. Wolven Deadsoul, I have to say. Very well done riffs. Some songs a little more "calm" others faster. Some more balanced, some more elaborate. Whatever the music of this release, I can only say that this work is very well done and very good at hearing it. I loved the song "Forged to Forfeit". It reminded me of Death Metal that I listened to when I was younger. Yeah. Very good riffs. Although this release has reminded me of very old songs and bands, I noticed that they were also careful to try to give a slightly more personal touch and not just to "imitate" an old sound. The changes of rhythms and tempos, the riffs used, the way the voice is used, the drums very well played. They bring nothing new to the style but what they bring is quality, and that to me is what really matters. Well ... Now that I'm writing more about this release, I'm remembering about riffs and melodies from the songs of this release. Awww ... I do not know anymore, I can say that I loved the song "Forged to Forfeit" but songs like "Worlds Within Worlds" or "Slaves To The Apocalypse" and "Formula Misanthropia" are excellent, a proof of an excellent Death Metal and its changes of rhythms and tempos. Well ... I just have to mention two more songs to be all here. ahahahahh I will not do it. You will make that decision and you will listen this band. Search and listen. I'm serious. Bitter Lake (Sco) "Plagues"

Well ... I received this promo from Old Lion Recordings and was even a little curious to listen to it, after having been researching the band a few days before (on Twitter). "Plagues" is the name of this release of the band Bitter Lake. But let's start with the band name. There are two options for this name from this band from Scotland. A name of a lake that exists near Seattle, or (and I think it is from here that the name was used) of a film realized by the English film-maker Adam Curtis  (I looked for info about this and it seemed very interesting. It's one of the things I'm gonna see). Speaking now of the sound of the band ... This work is divided into six songs. All of them related to Black Metal, of that I have no doubt, but ... There is a very present aspect here in all of them. An industrial and even (sometimes) electronic. In the first song of this work "Deadman's Switch" noted well the presence of industrial sound giving a different ambient sound. It even reminded me a little of the Norwegian band The Kovenant (and something that is found throughout this work). The second song of "Plagues" begins with an "intro" and then enters the "chaotic" part, the music itself is always a mixture of ambient sound and the chaotic part. Well done by the way. "Inhaling Chaos" the third song ... In my opinion the most Black Metal music of this work, despite appearing a quieter part through the middle of the music, but always with a bit of the mixed industrial part. The best song of this work appears in fourth place. "Nature Kicks Back", at least that's my opinion. A very powerful riff throughout the song and with a well made mix of "sounds" that makes the listening very good. "Plagues" the fifth song of this work and the one that gives the name to this work, perhaps the most "chaotic" music of this work, and a little repetitive, attention, in the good sense. It did remind some of the older industrial bands that have a powerful rhythm and basically "walk" around it, during the whole song adding sounds and melodies. Of those rhythms / riffs that make the head shake. I like ... And ... "Inhaling Chaos (Grimbit Remix)" the last song ... A remix, yes ... That's right ... And here is the most electronic part of the band, a lot of "beat", a lot of electronic sound ... This music I will not prolong my words much because it is a sound that passes me a little and I have no knowledge, and as such I will not comment on such. Concerning the whole work of this Scottish band. For those who are curious in music and not a "Traditional" I advise the listening, for those who are not ... You lose a band that can be interesting in many ways. One last point ... Better production could give a lot more weight to this work. 7/10 By Me, Myself & I

Well ... Legacy Of Emptiness from Norway with their last album "Over The Past". It took some time to compose. It started in 2013 and only saw the green light, that is, its completion in 2017 ... If it was worth your "delay"? Well ... We'll see ... I remember when I first heard two songs from this album, I got the idea, "Hmmm ... Symphonic Black Metal, and it's melodic ..."
